Parminder Singh P. Eng
Founder and Managing Partner
Parminder Singh (Par) has more than 25 years of technical, operations, international business, and management experience in public and private corporations. He has worked in variety of senior management roles in different sized organizations that span from under-capitalized start-ups to Fortune 100 multinational corporations. His background includes hands-on industry experience in software development, product development, online e-commerce & web services, intellectual property, innovation sourcing , video gaming, medical devices, advertising, and brand development. Parminder is currently the CEO of the Taal Innovation Advisors Inc. (“Taal”).
Taal is a boutique business consulting and innovation advisory firm that specializes in helping companies (big, small, public and private) grow and create value by transforming select technologies into commercially viable products and services and taking them to market through strategic global partnerships.
Previously, Parminder served as the CEO of a disruptive start-up called LifeLens. LifeLens developed a personal bio-sensing wearable device that combines advancements in thin-film membranes, nanomaterials, and sensor miniaturization, to create the most advanced bio-sensing wearable device in the world today. The technology can accurately, in real-time and with clinical precision, sense, collect analyze and cross-correlate information about a user’s physiological state, their movement and activities, and the environment they are exposed. Prior to LifeLens, Parminder, served as the President of Intellectual Ventures Canada - a $6B private equity fund that invested in early-stage disruptive technologies. Parminder also served Managing Director of the Microsoft Canada Development Centre; the General Manager for Microsoft’s Home & Entertainment Division for Japan and the head of the Business Development group responsible for the global launch of Xbox and Xbox 360.
Parminder has established three successful start-up companies and has held executive positions and consulted for a multitude of Fortune 500 companies including: Motorola, Microsoft, American Express, Flextronics, ATT, Boeing, Flextronics, AON Space, Hughes Aircraft Company, Space Systems Loral, and the Government of Canada. Parminder is an active investor in disruptive technologies and serves as an advisor to young entrepreneurs with big ideas. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Technical University of Nova Scotia and lives in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. He is married with three children, two dogs, and an occasional goldfish.
Kei Morita
Associate Partner
Kei Morita has more than 25 years of experience in the corporate, start-up and the consulting markets in the technology sector. She has worked for both private and publicly traded Fortune 100 multinational corporations.
Kei is a skilled technology veteran and has hands-on industry involvement in the areas of marketing, communications, reputation management, human resources (staffing and talent development), corporate affairs, philanthropy management, operations, supply chain logistics, international business development, eSports and e-commerce. She has managed executive communications to multiple C-level executives at several large organizations, and has also consulted to C-suites executives – helping them execute specific strategies to create and maximize new and existing opportunities both internally and externally.
Kei is known for her innovative and out-of-the-box thinking when it comes to moving a business forward. She spends the time necessary to understand the dynamics of the existing business, its processes and its goals and works within the existing team structure to identify challenges, formulate balanced solutions and analyze new opportunities. Her roll-up-your sleeves approach to business and execution has delivered the results that are precise and material.
Kei worked for Microsoft Corporation in both Japan and in the US in various roles including Corporate PR, various product management, creator and head of a successful global HR program, Xbox and Xbox Live, Corporate Affairs and several Chief of Staff roles.
Prior to Microsoft, Kei worked as a key liaison and transportation/supply chain logistics advisor for a joint venture between Mitsui and Co. Ltd. and Airborne Express (Current DHL) on various transportation/supply chain logistics initiatives and led the customer support center, servicing global joint venture accounts. She also worked as the Director of Marketing for a start-up RFID security/asset management company based in the UK.
Kei has independently consulted for some notable Japanese companies, taken on numerous interpreting/translation projects, worked on programs in the health and medical device industries, has an expertise in the video gaming/mobile-gaming and eSports. She studied at Kwansei Gakuin University in Hyogo, Japan and at the University of Washington in communications, International Studies/business and political science. She is also a receipient of a mini-fellow from the Stanford Medical School iSage program in Successful Aging studies.
Kei is fluent in Japanese and English and is often contracted to provide professional interpreting and translation services. . She has interpreted for prominent journalists and numerous C-level corporate executives in the entertainment and technology areas.
She volunteers for Providence Hospice of Seattle and works on an on-call basis as a hospice health aide for Kaiser Permanente Washington. In addition, she volunteers for the Make-A-Wish Foundation Alaska/Washington Chapter. She has ‘four children’ – her beloved husband, who is a professional engineer during the day and musician on occasional evenings, two daughters and one four-legged Shiba-inu/dog named “Jiro” and when there’s time she practices Yoga.
Harmanas Chopra
Software Engineer
Harmanas Chopra is a proven engineering leader, software architect, and team player who enjoys building products and learning new technologies. In his past roles he has worked at growth stage startups building prototypes and products at a demanding iteration velocity. He has worked on educational applications, news aggregators, and healthcare devices. Harmanas is currently a Software Engineer at Taal Innovation Advisors.
